Chicago Botanical Gardens

The Japanese garden is a special space where meditation and relaxation are given absolute priority. A recent exhibition at the Chicago Botanical Gardens tiltled ‘Islands of Serenity – The Japanese Garden Experience’ paid tribute to this art form and photographs from the show can be found at their site on the photo contest page.

Unfortunately the exhibit closed in February 2011. I hope the directors will see fit to bring more similar horticultural delights to the windy city.

Maria Hajiandreou Exhibition

Until the 3rd of March 2012 Maria Hajiandreou is exhibiting a series of exquisite drawings created between 2008 and 2011. The show is at Gallery ’7′ Zalokosta in the centre of Athens.

Here are a few examples of the work on show.

All the drawings are just pencil and chalk. Here’s what the artist says about her work.

It delights me to create images, which give the impression that their subjects have always been right there with their complete physical appearance in all the beauty of their form. My drawings are simple. White cloth, seeds, metal objects, shells and stones without backgrounds in an indeterminate space where light and shadow collaborate in harmony to create islands of calm in such a way that each of these will have its own stability and balance.

I can recommend this exhibition to anyone who is truly seeking islands of serenity.
